Referred to as “the art of eight limbs,” Muay Thai is a highly effective system of martial arts originating in Thailand. While often confused with kickboxing, Muay Thai differs crucially in its use of elbows and knees—with eight points of contact, Muay Thai utilises every part of the body in both offensive and defensive techniques. Properly executed, Muay Thai is at once a beautiful, yet brutal, martial art.

Based on a carefully planned curriculum created by our world champion instructors, students will learn various offensive, defensive and counter attack techniques. These techniques may be applied during live sparring sessions.

One of the fastest growing combat sports today, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that utilizes leverage, grip, and position to allow a smaller, weaker person to control and subdue a heavier, stronger opponent. Primarily a ground fighting system, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu involves various submissions focused on joint locks and chokeholds. It is used primarily as a system of self-defense, but has seen growing popularity as an international competitive sport.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program at TSA brings together some of the best local talent. Our head coach is a competition legend in the BJJ community, trained by one of the most successful Jiu-Jitsu schools in Ontario, and affiliated with the renowned Jiu-Jitsu for Life Team. The art of boxing has a history that dates as far back as the third millennium, BCE. Today, it remains one of the most revered and best known combat sports in the world. It is a system of fighting that involves two opponents wearing padded gloves and throwing carefully calculated punches. No two boxers have the same “style”—rather, each fighter’s unique style is determined by both physical and technical qualities. With extensive professional and amateur associations, boxing allows fighters many competitive opportunities.

Boxing at TSA excels in its unique blend of fitness and technical detail. Our sweat-pouring, heart-pumping boxing program produces optimally conditioned athletes and technically sound fighters. With provincial and Golden Gloves titles under his belt, our head boxing coach brings his extensive strength and conditioning training, years of boxing experience, and unmatched ability to motivate his students.

The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word yuj (which means “to yoke” or “bind”) and is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline. The word hatha means willful or forceful and refers to a set or sequence of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures) designed to align your skin, muscles and bones.

Hatha yoga is an increidble tool to develop strength and balance. It also brings the practitioner’s attention to their breath, which helps to still the fluctuations of the mind, increasing focus and mental strength.

This is why Hatha Yoga is an excellent supplement for martial arts. It enables you to create a strong base to support every aspect of your training, increasing your ability to perform better and decreasing the risk of injury.

Wrestling is one of the oldest sports in history, dating back to the first Olympic Games. Wrestling is a combat art based on leverage, strong balance, explosive power, and intricate finesse with the intention of taking down and controlling an opponent on the ground.

In the Olympics, there are two styles of wrestling, Freestyle and Greco-Roman. Both styles of wrestling require exceptional strength and power in order to take an opponent down.

Freestyle wrestling is considered to be one of the most complete styles of wrestling. Greco-Roman wrestling on the other hand, concentrates on throws and upper body clinch techniques.

In MMA, wrestling is often viewed as a critical part of the transition game between stand-up striking and grappling on the ground. Without a doubt, wrestling is a critical skill for any aspiring Mixed Martial Artist.

Submission grappling focuses on the use of positional control on the ground to secure joint locks and chokes. It requires a mastery of leverage, human body mechanics, balance and technique. In MMA, submission grappling is used when the opponent is successfully taken down to the ground. For a fast paced, dynamic and exhilarating workout, submission grappling is definitely the martial art for you.

We work with children and youth to develop not only their physical strength and abilities, but to sharpen their focus, strengthen their sense of confidence, and build their social awareness.

Our Mini Strikers program for children 4-8 years old applies an approachable and easy-to-grasp curriculum that prepares these younger groups for the transition to Youth MMA. Focused on children ages 8-12, our Youth MMA program provides an increased level of technique and skill. Our youth coaches are keenly aware of this crucial time in the development of youth—we arm students with the tools of self-defence, self-confidence, physical conditioning, and mental focus in an encouraging, knowledgeable, and supportive environment.

Our Youth MMA program provides crucial preparation for the transition to adult training, so we encourage youth to start early!
